The Closties Variety Hour: Easter Extravaganza
March 31, 2026 7:00-8:00PM
The Closties Variety Hour: Easter Extravaganza is a holiday spin-off special that transforms the deeply rooted cultural and theatrical nature of the black church experience into a vibrant, queer-centered pageant. This production draws direct inspiration from the structured, familiar ritual of a traditional church service and reimagines it through a distinctly Black queer-femme lens, starting at praise and worship all the way through benediction.
The work explores concepts of abiding faith, sacrifice, profound surrender, and unshakeable hope through a blend of music, dance, parody and visual spectacle, all infused with a theatricality that mirrors the grand performance inherent in Black church culture. EasterExtravaganza is an act of reclamation and celebration, inviting the audience to experience a nostalgic, sacred space where queer identities are not only welcome but are central to the divine narrative. Amen.
